Military Appreciation Month

Did you know that May is dedicated to celebrating those who serve, past and present? Military Appreciation Month (NMAM) is a time to recognize the unwavering dedication, sacrifice, and strength of our nation's service members. There are several observances to note and celebrate throughout Military Appreciation Month, some of which include:

Loyalty Day (May 1)

• Reaffirms loyalty to the United States and recognizes the heritage of American freedom. Established in 1958, Loyalty Day encourages reflection on American values and patriotism.

National Military Spouse Appreciation Day (Friday before Mother's day- May 9 in 2025)

• Celebrates the commitment, strength, and sacrifice of military spouses, recognizing their support as essential to service members and military families.

Children of Fallen Patriots Day (May 13)

• Honors the children who have lost a parent in military service. Children of Fallen Patriots Day raises awareness and support for the educational needs of children by awarding Gold Star scholars.

Armed Forces Day (Third Saturday in May- May 17 in 2025)

• Recognizes all active-duty service members across military branches. Armed Forces Day highlights their contributions, both at home and abroad.

Memorial Day (Last Monday in May- May 26 in 2025)

• Honors military personnel who died in service to the country. Americans observe Memorial day with parades, moments of silence, and visits to cemeteries and memorials.

Aiming to help our local military communities, we are in partnership with Angels for Warriors, a local nonprofit resource center for veterans and their families throughout Nassau and Suffolk County.
