Slim guys beware. I have been looking for one of these M-65 jackets for a while now, and finally found a used one that was virtually unused. I am 5'10", 170 lbs., and although I have a 42" chest, I normally wear a 40R jacket; I'd say I'm athletic-slim. My Rothco is labelled "XSMALL REGULAR" (whatever that means), yet it billows on me. Yes, the sleeves have lots of room (assuming for the not-included liner), and so they kinda flap about if you don't have much underneath. I managed to bring the shoulders under control a bit by sewing the shoulder gussets (easily accessed via the hood zipper from the inside) and have the waist drawstring cinched up pretty good.
Ok, so I bought this with the intent that I would wear it over some sort of mid-layer (e.g. Arc'teryx Atom hoody), so there is ample room for this kind of thing. I am also able to put this over my North Face Thunder 800 down jacket with no problem. As someone who normally buys outerwear in size Large, I have no idea what to recommend to you unless you are approx. my body type.
Does it look cool? Yes, but not like the ones pictured in fashion mags. I've even read about guys who take these to the tailor, and get massive alterations done to make them more presentable, but that kind of defeats the purpose of buying a vintage jacket.
In the end, I'm pleased with my $20 (used) purchase, but probably wouldn't recommend at $100.

An alright coat, but it's incredibly cold even with a liner. Under -30 Celsius it's useless.

Got a pair of these jackets.
Pros:
- Cotton is both sturdy and does not irritate skin. Really feels good on touch (Yes, I'm very whiny on this stuff);
- Great for three seasons of a year. My personal expirience is that I managed to wear it in temperature range from minus 15 C in Winter up to plus 18 in Spring. And I wore it without a liner (a tshirt, sweater and jacket - and you're good to go in Winter).
-Aesthetics. I have no military background but I've got crush on military stuff as every guy does. Yes, guys never grow up. This jacket looks amazing and classic without extra details.
Cons:
- Difficult to get a proper size if you're tall and skinny (or skinny-fat like yours truly) with long arms.
-The hood is too thick and bulky. I literally had to amputate it in order to get rid of strange sensation ofburden on my neck.
- Upper pockets could be larger and wider.
- Cotton. It is both gift and a curse. Don't bother using it under heavy rain.
But overall in my opinion it is cool piece of clothing. Especially for Autumn and early winter.
